English Literature Study Program Introduces International Undergraduate Program (IUP) to Students and Parents
Socialization of the IUP Program for Parents and Guardians
The English Literature Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga held a socialization session for the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) on Saturday, August 29, 2026, via Zoom. The session, which began at 1:00 p.m. WIB, was attended by students who had successfully passed the IUP selection process, along with their parents.
The session was organized as part of the IUP student admission process to provide a comprehensive overview of the program, including its academic system, curriculum, learning activities, financial arrangements, and other matters that students need to prepare for throughout their studies. It also provided an opportunity for parents to gain a better understanding of the program and the support students may need during their studies.
The session was opened by Diah Prima Fajarwati, S.S., M.A., Secretary of the English Literature Study Program, who served as the master of ceremonies. The event continued with a presentation by the Head of the English Literature Study Program, Dr. Ulyati Retno Sari, S.S., M.Hum., who explained several key aspects of the IUP.
One of the main topics discussed was the implementation of the 2024 Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum. Dr. Ulyati Retno Sari, S.S., M.Hum., also highlighted the differences between the regular program and the IUP, particularly in terms of the language of instruction and academic activities incorporated into the program.
In the IUP, English is used as the language of instruction for courses, including both study program courses and general education courses. IUP students are also required to participate in student mobility as part of their international academic experience. This differs from the regular program, in which students are not required to participate in overseas student mobility programs and English is not used as the language of instruction for all courses.
Student mobility in the IUP can take three forms: internships, research dissemination or academic seminars, and short semesters at overseas universities that have established partnerships with the English Literature Study Program. Students will receive guidance and assistance in choosing their student mobility program starting from the third semester, while the mobility itself may be undertaken in the fifth, sixth, or seventh semester, in accordance with the program's regulations.
To support student mobility, the English Literature Study Program continues to expand its network of partnerships with universities abroad. Existing partnerships include universities in Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. The program is also planning to develop partnerships with universities in Australia, Japan, and China.
In addition to academic matters, the socialization session also addressed financial preparedness for students and their families. Students who previously enrolled in the regular program and later transferred to the IUP remain subject to the tuition fees determined through the university's academic evaluation process. The tuition fee is approximately IDR 7 million. Meanwhile, expenses related to student mobility are the responsibility of the students and must therefore be planned and prepared in advance together with their parents.
To help students prepare for studying in an English-medium academic environment, the IUP also provides a bridging program. This intensive program is designed to strengthen students' English language proficiency. The bridging program is conducted in the third semester and serves as part of students' preparation for the subsequent stages of their academic journey.
Following the presentation, the session continued with a question-and-answer session involving students' parents and representatives of the English Literature Study Program. The Head of the English Literature Study Program and the Head of the IUP Team, Anisah Durrotul Fajri, S.S., M.Hum., responded to various questions raised by the participants.
The discussion provided parents with an opportunity to obtain first-hand information about the implementation of the IUP, including its academic requirements, student mobility opportunities, and financial considerations. Through the discussion, parents were expected to gain a clearer understanding of their children's academic plans and prepare the necessary support throughout their participation in the IUP.
The socialization session concluded with closing remarks and a documentation session. Through this event, the English Literature Study Program hopes that students and their parents will gain a comprehensive understanding of the IUP and be better prepared to undertake their studies and participate in various academic activities within an international learning environment.
