English Skill Competence Practice by English Department Students Chapter 2017

With various input of student’s competency, possessing an excellent English proficiency becomes a must for every graduate student of English Department, especially for fresh graduates. Strengthening English proficiency is also the core of English Department. At the very least, English Department requires students to complete the TOEFL with the minimum score of 500 before doing the munaqosyah examination.

English Department held English Skill Competence Practice to help the students in mastering English skills optimally, especially to increase their TOEFL score as it is required. Moreover, the department also needs to make the students understand the urgency of mastering English skills as the provision in society and workplaces. “English Skill Competence Practice” aimed to share the strategies in mastering English, especially speaking, grammar, and writing skills.

This event was held from March 19th to May 23rd 2018 and was attended by English Department students of chapter 2017. The speakers of this event were Ade Nine Suryani, S.S., Ayu Karomah, S.S., Dian Marhamah, S.S., and Nur Fauziah Hasibuan, S.S. They are the delegation of IKAMASI (Ikatan Keluarga Alumni Mahasiswa Sastra Inggris) in development division and were chosen based on their competencies. Writing material was taught on the first day of this activity. Two days later, the participants joined the Structure Practice, and in the last two days, they learned about speaking. Each practice took 2 hours, starting from 15.30 to 17.30 WIB. It was expected that students who joined this event can maximize their competence in related courses: Factual Speaking, Analytical Grammar, and Factual Writing.
