Strengthening Research Culture and Strategies, UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s English Literature Study Program Holds Student Research Publication and Dissemination Workshop

As part of its efforts to foster a strong scientific culture and enhance the academic recognition of research findings, the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences (FADIB), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, held a Student Research Publication and Dissemination Workshop on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The event took place on the first floor of the FADIB building from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB). The workshop was designed to equip students from the 2024 cohort of the English Literature Study Program with the skills needed to develop, analyze, and present academic papers systematically. The event was moderated by Febriyanti Dwiratna Lestari, M.A., and featured Dr. Khristianto, S.S., M.Hum., as the main speaker.

During the workshop, Dr. Khristianto guided fifth-semester students in identifying their preferred areas of study for their final theses, either literature or linguistics, through a structured process that included discussions of thesis examples written by alumni and a Thesis Planning Survey. In the session titled “Writing a Scientific Article,” students learned about the stages of initiating research, identifying research gaps, and exploring various sources and platforms for literature searches, including Garuda, DOAJ, ResearchGate, Semantic Scholar, SINTA, Scopus, and the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia. Participants also gained hands-on experience using Mendeley to manage citations and Publish or Perish to support literature searches.

During the case study session, the speaker encouraged students to apply research concepts to both linguistics and literature. The linguistics topics included the use of AntConc software for corpus analysis, a pragmatic study of royal letters in a novel, an analysis of diction in YouTube comments, and an analysis of linguistic politeness in the Deddy Corbuzier podcast featuring Reza Rahadian. Meanwhile, the literature topics covered the translation of children's literature, a feminist postcolonial approach, the application of psychoanalysis, and an in-depth analysis of the short story “Jasa-jasa Buat Sanwirya” by Ahmad Tohari.

Through this workshop, students were encouraged to actively disseminate their research findings through seminars, conferences, and academic publication platforms. The event is expected to strengthen students' ability to produce and communicate scholarly work while supporting the development of English Literature graduates at UIN Sunan Kalijaga who are intellectually broad-minded, critical thinkers, and prepared to contribute to the international academic community.
