Representative Meeting of English Literature Student Associations in Yogyakarta: Building a Solid Collaboration

On Saturday, April 8th, 2023, the English Literature Study Program of the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, organized a representative meeting for the English literature student associations in Yogyakarta universities that are part of the ESAI (English Studies Association in Indonesia) network. The event was attended by representatives from several universities, including Hisyam Fuad (UAD), Ahmad Farhan Anas (UGM), Hani Azfariza (UIN Sunan Kalijaga), Keisha Nur Afifah (UNY), Tianli Situmorang (USD), as well as Sevyla Manda and Saipul Amri (UTY). Although representatives from STBA-LIA Yogyakarta and UNRIYO were unable to attend, they expressed their willingness to join the next consolidation meeting, which will be held in the third week of May 2023.

Ulyati Retno Sari, the Head of English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, also attended the meeting as a moderator to discuss activities that can be undertaken to support collaboration among English literature student associations in Yogyakarta. The topics covered included sharing ideas and information about activities among the student associations, speakers, prospects for internships, research collaborations, and community service.

The aim of this event was to be the first step in forming a formal forum for English literature students in Yogyakarta, supported by the English Literature Study Programs. This forum will be guided by the Head of English Literature study programs or lecturers who will act as advisors for the English literature student association. The forum is expected to provide benefits in supporting activities and collaborations among English literature student associations in Yogyakarta, such as academic discussions about literature, art, culture, sharing information about required speakers for activities, internships, research, community service, and other support.
