Tour Guide Practitioner Teaches Students in English Literature Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga

English Literature Study Program at Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga, organized "A Practitioner Teaches" event on October 6, 2023. This lecture featured Mr. Anwar S.Pd., a practitioner in the field of tourism, who is a nationally licensed tour guide and an alumni of French Language Education Program at Yogyakarta State University (UNY). The guest lecture took place in room 410 of the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, UIN Sunan Kalijaga.

The students showed great enthusiasm for attending this guest lecture as it provided them with the opportunity to gain new knowledge and experiences directly from a professional tour guide, accompanied by Dr. Dwi Margo Yuwono M.Hum, a French for Specific Purpose lecturer. The "Practitioner Teaches" lecture is essential to broaden the students' understanding and interest, strengthening their study and practical experiences in using the French language in the professional world, aligning with the objectives of the French for Specific Purpose course.

During his presentation, Mr. Anwar, S.Pd., shared extensive knowledge about the field of tourism, especially guiding skills in the French language. Students were encouraged to seize the significant opportunities in the world of guiding. He emphasized that students who take the French for Specific Purpose course have greater prospects for contributing to this field. Furthermore, he mentioned the shortage of professional tour guides proficient in the French language.

"Job prospects in the tourism industry are open for English literature students, such as travel agents, tourism managers, and tour guides.
Don't be afraid to try new things; everything you learn must be put into practice and tested to understand how to approach it. Never provide false information to clients and don't hesitate to admit when you don't know about a particular culture while presenting locations and conditions to tourists. However, if you aspire to become a guide, don't shy away from learning it from local cultural experts," he advised.

All participants were highly enthusiastic about this event, as demonstrated by the numerous questions about tourism-related topics. Questions ranged from tips on becoming a good tour guide to developing the necessary skills in the field of tourism. At the end of the event, all participants took a group photo with Mr. Anwar S.Pd., accompanied by Dr. Dwi Margo Yuwono M.Hum. (DMY/URS/HFS)
