Mentoring and Training of Thesis Writing for English Literature Students Batch 2022

The English Literature Program held thesis writing mentoring and training for English Literature Students Batch 2022 on Saturday, December 20, 2024 in the theatrical room of FADIB UIN Sunan Kalijaga. This event began at 09.00 am and was opened with a welcome speech from the Head of English Literature Program, Dr. Ulyati Retno Sari, M.Hum. who explained that this event was held with the aim of equipping 2022 students with an understanding for careful preparation in completing their final studies. This event presented two English Literature Lecturers as speakers, namely a lecturer in Literature, Febriyanti Dwiratna Lestari, S.S., M.A. and a lecturer in Linguistics, Anisah Durrotul Fajri, S.S., M.Hum.

In her session, Febriyanti Dwiratna Lestari, SS, M.A. provided the guidelines for writing a thesis according to the standards set by the university along with the examples of previous theses. She continued the explanation about the aspects that students need to pay attention to during preparation for the final study, such as passing the Academic Writing and Research Method courses, preparing for language certification with a required minimum score, and paying attention to the grades of certain courses which are a requirement to enrol in the proposal seminar course and further thesis.

Moving to the next speaker, Anisah Durrotul Fajri, S.S., M.Hum. delivered a thesis writing strategy through three steps that need to be considered, before writing, writing process, and after writing. She emphasized the importance of liking the topic that will be chosen. In addition, students must also have a timeline during thesis writing so that the work is more directed, starting from planning, drafting, revising, and editing. The presentation ended with an introduction to the profiles of Literature and Linguistics lecturers along with the interest journal and supervised research of each lecturer.

The session continued from the 2022 students who asked questions related to the language certification system, the minimum score requirements for certain courses, and so on. This event went well until 11.30 am which ended with a photo session of participants and speakers.(Azki)
