Equipping Students in the Digital Era: HMPS SI (English Literature) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Hosts Seminar on Content Writing and Personal Branding
The English Literature Student Association organized a seminar "Content Writing and Personal Branding".
Wednesday, April 29, 2026 – The English Literature Student Association (HMPS) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga successfully held a seminar titled "Content Writing and Personal Branding: Ready to Run Your Personal Branding? Get Set to Write" at the theatre hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business. The event was attended by English Literature students as well as general participants, with the aim of enhancing students' writing skills and personal branding abilities in the digital era.
The chairperson of the committee, Nailah Hayya Aqilah, stated that the theme was chosen because of the connection between content writing and personal branding. She added that the selection of this theme aimed to encourage English Literature students to begin building their personal branding through their content writing skills.
The event began at 7:30 AM with participant registration and an opening ceremony, followed by speeches from the committee chair, the head of the English Literature Student Association, and the head of the English Literature Department, Dr. Ulyati Retno Sari, S.S., M.Hum.
The main session was delivered by Fitri Yuliana, an academic and practitioner in the field of English, as well as an LPDP awardee and a graduate of the Master's Program in Applied Linguistics at Yogyakarta State University. She is known for actively speaking at various national and international forums, with a focus on writing skills and personal branding development. The main material was divided into two sessions: the first session focused on content writing, and the second focused on personal branding.
In the first session, the speaker emphasized the importance of writing as a form of personal branding, the function of writing as a digital footprint and a means of self-expression, and common bad writing habits such as overthinking. She also discussed how to overcome these habits using the "write first, fix later" approach, as well as techniques to improve writing quality through the structure of hook, content, and closing. The content writing session ended with a hands-on practice, in which participants wrote examples of a hook and body content, then received feedback from the speaker.
Meanwhile, the second session, still led by the same speaker, focused on personal branding. In this session, she discussed the importance of building personal branding for students in the digital era. Topics included understanding the concept of personal branding, its benefits in increasing opportunities and credibility, how to discover one's uniqueness through passion, skills, and the needs of others, as well as strategies for building a consistent personal image through digital platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. The second session concluded with three enthusiastic attendees asking questions about personal branding, particularly regarding career direction, social media management, and how to discover and present one's potential.
The event was further enlivened by musical performances from Bintang Syawal Dzakwan Hadjid (Class of 2024) and Mahliatus Sariroh (Class of 2025), accompanied by guitar and piano played by Muh. Nur. Fathir (Class of 2025) and Muhammad Surya Galuh (Class of 2024). Their performances added to the festive atmosphere before the certificate presentation to the speaker and the group photo session.
The activity ran smoothly and received positive responses from participants. One participant, Muhammad Farhan (Class of 2024), stated that the seminar was very beneficial because it helped students determine their direction for self-development in content writing and strengthen their personal branding in the digital world. He also expressed hope that similar events would continue to be held in the future.
It is hoped that this activity will continue to be held on an ongoing basis to support the development of student competencies, particularly in the fields of writing and personal branding in the digital era, as well as to encourage students to be more active in creating and publishing their ideas across various platforms.
