Guest Lecture with Workplace Practitioner

The English Department presented Rina Komariya, an Indonesian diplomat in several countries, and Ari Wulandari, a national productive writer, as guest lecturers for 7th semester students who are now taking the Professional Development course under the guidance of Dr. Witriani, M.Hum. The Guest Lecture was held on October 9th-11th 2018. This activity took place in Room 404 of the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences of State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. The material presented was about Professional Development and Creative Writing for students of the English Department.

Dr. Witriani, M.Hum opened this event by introducing Rina Komariya and telling about her experiences going around the world as an Indonesian diplomat. This story increased the students' enthusiasm to listen more about the material and the experiences explained by Rina Komariya. Furthermore, the speaker explained how to improve self-capacity to be a person with a good life goal and be able to realize our dreams.

Firstly, Rina Komariya talked about her dream as a child. She aspired to have a job that could take her around the world. One day, she decided to continue her study abroad and presented material about the scope of work carried out by the Indonesian Embassy. She also explained how to negotiate between countries to establish relations between one country and another. It was expected from this event that English literature students have insight in dealing with workplaces. This guest lecture ended with a Q&A session.
