Internship at the English Literature Study Program: Students Develop Professional Skills through Collaboration
Documentation of the English Literature Study Program’s Batch 4 Internship Activities
Classroom learning is an important part of the academic process. However, the English Literature Study Program recognizes that practical experience also plays an important role in preparing students for the professional world. Therefore, the English Literature Study Program organizes a four-month internship program within the study program as a platform for students to develop their competencies, hone their professional skills, and gain practical work experience in an academic environment.
The internship program offers three positions: Social Media Administrator, Website Administrator, and Administrative Administrator. The Social Media Administrator is responsible for managing the study program’s social media platforms, designing and editing content such as posters, carousels, and reels, as well as documenting various activities of the study program. Meanwhile, the Website Administrator is responsible for managing the study program’s website content to ensure that the information presented remains engaging, informative, and regularly updated. The Administrative Administrator assists the study program in managing data and preparing accountability reports (LPJ) and activity reports as part of its administrative documentation.
The fourth batch of the internship program runs from July to October 2026 and is implemented through a collaborative work system. Each participant has responsibilities according to their respective position and division. However, the study program does not design the internship program to place the workload solely on individual students. Instead, the program is intended to foster a collaborative work culture. Thus, although each participant has specific responsibilities within their respective division, they continue to support one another in completing various tasks.
This was explained by Vina, a fourth-batch intern serving as a Social Media Administrator. She explained that when she is unable to attend a study program activity, members of other divisions assist by taking the photographs or videos needed for documentation. The documentation is then developed into social media content and can also be used by the Website Administrator as material for articles published on the study program’s website. This demonstrates how each division complements one another in carrying out their respective responsibilities.
Through this collaboration, interns not only learn to fulfill responsibilities according to their respective areas but also develop their abilities to collaborate, communicate, and adapt to a professional working environment.
A similar experience was shared by Halima, a fourth-batch intern serving as a Website Administrator. During the internship, she gained new experience in writing articles. Previously, she had no experience writing articles for publication through official media channels. Throughout the writing process, she also received guidance and supervision from lecturers, who provided feedback on the organization of the articles, information selection, and revision process before publication. Through this process, she not only learned how to write articles but also gained an understanding of how written content is prepared to communicate information clearly and engagingly.
In addition, Salwa and Diah shared their experiences during their internship at the English Literature Study Program. Drawing on their previous experience in administrative work during high school, they became involved in supporting the study program’s administrative tasks. Although the tasks were flexible because the internship program implemented a work-from-anywhere (WFA) system, this flexibility was accompanied by deadlines for completing assignments. One of these assignments involved preparing documents such as accountability reports (LPJ).
This experience taught them the importance of time management amid their respective schedules and responsibilities. In addition, effective communication with the parties involved in preparing the required documents was an important part of completing their assignments. As a result, the tasks assigned by the study program could be completed effectively and according to the established deadlines.
The internship program demonstrates that learning does not take place only in the classroom. Through practical experience, students have the opportunity to hone their skills, develop professional competencies, and learn to collaborate in completing various responsibilities. The English Literature Study Program continues to foster a learning environment that focuses not only on theoretical knowledge but also on developing the competencies needed in the professional world. Through this internship program, students are expected to gain valuable experience that will prepare them for the workplace while supporting the development of competent graduates who are ready to contribute in various fields.(NH/ND)
