Students of the 2025 cohort of the English Literature Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta participated in the English Language Competency Enhancement Program for IUP Students of the English Literature Study Program as part of the university’s efforts to improve students’ English proficiency and readiness to participate in various international academic activities. Organized by the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, the program was held every Saturday from September to October 2026.
The program was designed to prepare students for an English proficiency test, particularly the IELTS. Through intensive training and practice tests, students had the opportunity to develop their English skills while gaining a better understanding of the IELTS format and test-taking strategies.
The program featured three experienced speakers in the fields of English language assessment and instruction: Gde Raka Bima Anuraga from IDP Education Jogja, Nicky Triaskandi from PLTI Yogyakarta, and Ria Perdani from MMC Lingua.
The implementation of this intensive program was motivated by the importance of English proficiency for students participating in various academic activities and international mobility programs. English proficiency certificates, including IELTS, may be required for various international programs, such as student exchange programs and other international mobility programs, depending on the requirements of each program or partner university.
Through the training, students are expected to gain a better understanding of the IELTS format and test-taking strategies, improve their readiness for the test, and prepare themselves to achieve an IELTS score that meets the requirements of their intended program or university.
The program represents one of the English Literature Study Program’s efforts to support the development of English language competencies among IUP students. Through structured and continuous training, students are expected to be better prepared to meet English language proficiency requirements for various academic activities and international mobility programs.
