"Hopeless," First Short Film by the Class of 2022 in Collaboration with HMPSSI

The short film titled "Hopeless" is the first work by the Class of 2022 in collaboration with the Association of English Literature Students (HMPSSI). This film reflects the common life experiences of young people who start facing romantic and family conflicts. The shooting process took three days at various locations in Yogyakarta, such as Malioboro, Gowok, UIN SuKa housing complex in Sambisari, and a café in the Kalasan area. The film, funded by HMPSSI and the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, tells the story of a young man named El. He is an English Literature student. His parents hope that he will become an Islamic scholar (ustadz) in the future, as he graduated from an Islamic boarding school. In the midst of the dilemma of living between fulfilling his parents' expectations or following his own desires.

One day, while El is lamenting the bitterness of life, he accidentally meets Ananda. She is a beautiful health sciences student and the daughter of an Indonesian National Armed Forces (ABRI) officer. As they get caught up in a whirlwind romance, El's family faces a crisis of trust, leading to his parents' divorce. Not only does El have to deal with his family issues, but he also discovers that Ananda is the daughter of an ABRI officer. ABRI is the abbreviation for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia, which is now called the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). So, what will happen next in their story? It's quite intriguing, isn't it?
