Collaborative Discussion between the English Literature Study Program and the Language Center of West Java Province at the Facul
Yogyakarta—On Friday, October 3, 2025, the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, welcomed a visit from the Head of the West Java Language Center, Dr. Herawati, S.S., M.A. The event took place in the meeting room of the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences and was attended by Vice Dean I, Dr. Nurul Hak, D.Ag., M.Hum.; Vice Dean III, Dr. Syamsul Arifin, S.Ag., M.Ag.; Head of the English Literature Study Program, Dr. Ulyati Retno Sari, S.S., M.Hum.; Secretary of the English Literature Program, Dr. Dwi Margo Yuwono, M.Hum.; as well as several lecturers, the Chair of HMPSSI (English Literature Student Association) Lintang, and several student representatives.
The event proceeded smoothly, beginning with opening remarks from the Vice Dean 1 and the Head of the Study Program, followed by a presentation delivered by the Head of the West Java Language Center. The lecturers and students listened attentively and enthusiastically to the presentation.
In her remarks, the Head of the English Literature Study Program expressed her gratitude for the visit to the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, particularly to the English Literature Study Program. She stated that the visit provided a valuable opportunity for the program, especially in relation to internship activities as preparation for students entering the professional world.
Meanwhile, the Head of the West Java Language Center introduced various programs offered by the Center for students interested in participating in internships. Upholding their slogan, “Bangga, Mahir, dan Maju dengan Bahasa Indonesia”, she emphasized that improving language proficiency is one of the key aspects of this collaboration.
In addition, she elaborated on the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI), which is widely used as a requirement for scholarship applications such as Beasiswa Unggulan and LPDP, as well as several internship opportunities available to English Literature students. The internship duration may be adjusted based on an agreement between the university and the Language Center. Among the available fields, Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) and translation are particularly promising, offering strong career prospects and competitive compensation for English Literature graduates.
It is hoped that this visit will strengthen the partnership between the two institutions and provide students with opportunities to enhance their skills and broaden their experiences, thereby better preparing them for their future careers after graduation. NH/NY/DPF
