Strengthening English Teaching Skills: Delegation from English Literature Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga and Alumni Participate in ESETT Program in Bali

Held at Four Point by Sheraton Hotel Bali, Ungasan (20-27 June 2023), nine delegates from Yogyakarta participated in the Essentials Skills in the second and the third batch of ELT and Teacher Training (ESETT) program. The first batch took place from 14 – 19 June 2023. This ESETT 2023 was attended by 70 participants from all over Indonesia which were divided into 3 batches. Among the 30 selected teachers, chosen from the top 120 English language instructors in Indonesia, was Fitri Yuliana, S.S., an alumnus of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's English Literature Program. Fitri currently serves as an educator at Madrasah Aliyah Diponegoro, Yogyakarta, and was granted an LPDP RI scholarship for further studies in English Education at UNY.

Accompanying Fitri were two faculty members from the English Literature Study Program at Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, UIN Sunan Kalijaga: Aninda Aji Siwi S.Pd. M.Pd, and Febrianti Dwiratna Lestari S.S., M.A. Both of them are trainer and coach in the English Language Teacher Training (ELTT) program 2023, a collaboration between RELO-US Embassy and World Learning for English teachers for 6 (six) months. The program was a precursor program to ESETT.

The selection process for teacher participants involved a comprehensive evaluation conducted both online and offline, including the assessment of their online learning targets on the National Geographic Learning website and subsequent offline learning at designated locations agreed upon.

ESETT is organized by RELO-US Embassy - Jakarta and World Learning with the aim of enhancing language teaching skills and professional development in English instruction. The program equips participants to become more adept in facilitating workshops and teacher training.

ESETT participants received direct training from experienced practitioners and native speakers, including Wilma, Ivan Quinteros, Lois Scott Conley, Mike Griffin, and Erick. These five native speakers delivered the content effectively, resulting in a highly enjoyable training experience for all participants. Additionally, the ESETT program trainers provided various game references that the ESETT participants can utilize while teaching in their respective locations.

Following the conclusion of the ESETT program, all participants attended a closing ceremony, featuring speeches from representatives, the distribution of certificates, and a group photo. Subsequently, each participant returned to their respective regions to conduct workshops, with the hope of disseminating the knowledge gained from ESETT to English teachers across Indonesia.
