Fulfilling His Promise, a Lecturer of English Department, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Officially Earned a PhD This Year

The good news is forUIN Sunan Kalijaga. It is because one of the lecturers of English Department, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, Dr. Danial Hidayatullah officially earned a PhDin literature.

The lecturer that was officially graduated on Wednesday, 21 October 2020 carried a dissertation entitled “Diversity of Masculinities in the Five Novels of Indonesian Women Writers”. The literary works that he used were four novels and one short story which were Saman (1998) by Ayu Utami, Ode Untuk Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch (2002) by Dinar Rahayu, Tarian Bumi (2000) by Oka Rusmini, Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (2001) by Abidah El Khalieqy and the short story Menyusu Ayah (2004) by Djenar Maesa Ayu. In his dissertation, Dr. Danial Hidayatullah examined masculinity in novels that were highlighted by female authors. How these women writers broke norms and taboo values ​​and opened descriptions of sexuality so that they could be read clearly made him interested in raising these works as objects of his dissertation.

Dr. Danial Hidayatullah or who is often called as "Pak Dan" or “Daddy” by his students is one of the lecturers who graduated from Gadjah Mada University. He started his undergraduate program (S-1), majoring English Literature at Faculty of Letters, Gadjah Mada University then continued his master degree and completed his doctoral program at the same university.

The new title achieved by Danial Hidayatullah is the good news for the entire academics of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, especially for the English Department. The title adds to the row of doctors in the English Department.
