English Literature Student Wins Second Place in English Debate Competition at PORSI JAWARA II

A student from the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, has once again achieved an accomplishment at PORSI JAWARA II. Ahmad Jundi Ulya, a student of the EnglishLiterature Study Program, won second place in the Team English Debate Competition at the event, which was held at UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan on September 9-13, 2026. The competition, which brought together participants from NU-affiliated institutions accross Java and Madura, provided an opportunity for students to develop their interest and talents, particularly in English debating.

Ulya has been interested in English debating since high school. He has continued to develop this interest through various experiences and debate competitions. At PORSI JAWARA II, participants debated several motions, including “This house will give only the administration's sanction rather than imprisonment in ensuring quality of the free nutritious meal program (atau yang biasa disebut MBG)” and “This house as Syria Transitional government, will pursue a long-term safety agreement with Israel.”

According to Ulya, the competition was quite challenging. The motions were particularly complex and required extensive knowledge and a broad range of perspectives, especially the motion “This house as Syria Transitional government, will pursue a long-term safety agreement with Israel.” Ulya also explained that his achievement was made possible by teamwork, guidance from student organizations, and his determination to continue learning despite experiencing repeated setbacks.

“Never be satisfied with any achievement we have attained, because I strongly believe that we can become ‘greater’ every day. If we think that the sky has a limit, we will never know how vast the universe is. Second, simply have faith in whatever path we choose. I strongly encourage everyone to keep working in silence and move privately so that even the smallest distractions can be minimized throughout the process. I believe that the results will speak for our value,” Ulya said. (AR)
