Nestapa Sang Raja: Pandora Theater Performance from the 2022 Chapter

A Pandora theater performance titled Nestapa Sang Raja was held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the Taman Budaya Yogyakarta Performance Hall. This theater performance was revived after a two-year hiatus from the theater world. Since the covid pandemic, Pandora theater began to venture into the world of cinema until 2023 yesterday and returned to the world of theater this year.

In this performance, which was performed for approximately two hours, tells the story of a King who sadly laments his fate due to his own actions. Thirsty for praise and love, he is lulled by his son's false love. One day, the King gathered his children and tested their love for him through sweet words. The first and second son succeeded in winning the King's heart and they got their respective inheritances. However, the King's last son, whom he was always proud of, could not fulfill the King's expectations through his words. Despite this, the last son swore that he loved his father dearly, but his father rejected him.

To make a long story short, the father regretted and lost all the wealth and power he once had. The first and second sons forgot their words of love to their father and refused to take care of their old father. The king's agreement to bring 100 soldiers with them was broken until the king lost his confidant. In the end, it was the last son who cared and wanted to take care of his father who was almost crazy in the middle of the forest. Not only that, at the end of the story the King lost his three children and killed himself by shooting a bullet above his head.

Pandora Theater always adapts stories from English writers which are then translated into Indonesian. Students are required to be creative in dissecting old scripts, realizing the story with Indonesian culture and preparing the best possible performance. This activity is the flagship program of the English Literature study program and always gets the enthusiasm of its fans.(Anis Chilyatunnisa)
