Triumphant Journey: Bambang Hariyanto Earns a PhD from Western Sydney University

Bambang Hariyanto, PhD.
Expressions of gratitude, Alhamdulillah, resound once again among the academic community of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, particularly for the English Literature Program within the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Studies (FADIB) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga in 2023.
Thanks to his diligence, perseverance, and hard work, accompanied by prayers from his mother, teachers, and colleagues, Bambang Hariyanto has finally completed his doctoral studies at the PhD level in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts at Western Sydney University, Australia. This achievement was certainly not easy and came with its own set of challenges, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he had to navigate through uncertainties while studying in a foreign country. Alhamdulillah, his perseverance paid off as he reached the finish line in 2023.
During his doctoral studies, Bambang received financial support from the Indonesian government through the "Skema 5000 Doktor Luar Negeri" program by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which has now been renamed as BIB (Beasiswa Indonesia Bangkit) - LPDP. This scholarship was instrumental, as studying abroad entails significant expenses, including tuition fees and living costs. The scholarship was truly a blessing and a significant responsibility for Bambang to fulfill.
He commenced his PhD studies at the end of 2018 and successfully completed them in 2023.
After going through various challenging processes, Bambang finally, and with gratitude, officially earned his PhD on October 26, 2023, with a dissertation titled "Discourse Analysis of Islam Nusantara in Said Agil Siradj’s Speeches."
He is deeply grateful to be part of one of the leading Islamic universities in Indonesia today, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. As his contribution, he actively participates in various academic forums, both domestically and internationally, engaging in workshops, seminars, conferences, and serving as a journal reviewer. Additionally, he is a member of several academic forums, including MLI (Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia), Linguistik Forensik, MANASSA, LITA, ELITE, and ESAI Scholar.
As an active academic, he has diverse educational backgrounds before serving as a permanent lecturer in the English Literature Program, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Studies, UIN Sunan Kalijaga. He earned his Master's degree (S2) from Gadjah Mada University in Linguistics and his Bachelor's degree (S1) from the Department of Language and Literature at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, formerly known as STAIN Malang.
