Danusan Activities of Pandora Theater 2025
Pandora is a theater group consisting of English Literature students who carry out a project-based learning program for the Dramatic Performance subject. This activity aims to develop the creativity of the students in analyzing literary works and transforming them into theatrical performance. Due to this, this program has become one of the flagship programs of the English Literature Department.
In 2025, Pandora Theater will stage a drama performance adapted from the famous English literary work, “The Merchant of Venice” by William Shakespeare. The performance will take place at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta on Saturday, September 6. This year, Pandora Theater will be performed by English Literature students of the 2023 batch, highlighting the theme of discrimination against the Chinese ethic community by the natives around the year 1912.
Of course, the implementation of this event involves a substantial budget. Pandora Theater needs approximately Rp. 45.000.000, which covers expenses for promotion, venue rental at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, equipment, and other operational costs such as catering, rehearsal preparations, and division-specific necessities.
Therefore, in addition to the support from the Faculty and Cultural Sciences and UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Pandora Theater carries out various fundraising activities, such as seeking sponsorship partnerships, student contributions, and “danusan”.
“Danusan” is a fundraising program initiated by English Literature students to independently collect funds by selling food or services. This program significantly helps in financing Pandora Theater.
The English Literature students of the 2023 batch, in preparing for Pandora Theater 2025, carry out “danusan” by selling foods, drinks, and other items. They divide themselves into several groups assigned to different locations, both on and off campus. Up until now, danusan activities conducted outside the campus have taken place in areas, such as Timoho, Nologaten, Gowok, and Kaliurang. The schedule is flexible, allowing them to sell whenever they have time, including during the hours leading up to iftar in this Ramadhan. (Humairo)
