Internship Experience of English Literature Students at PT Vortex Buana Edumedia in Developing Digital Learning Modules

Students of the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, participated in an internship program at PT Vortex Buana Edumedia as part of the implementation of contextual learning that connects academic knowledge with the professional working world. The program served as a platform for students to develop competencies, creativity, and professional experience in the field of educational technology.

PT Vortex Buana Edumedia is a company engaged in educational technology with a focus on developing innovative learning media relevant to the needs of students in the digital era. Through the internship program, students were given the opportunity to gain direct experience in the educational industry while enhancing their professional skills.

During the internship, the students were assigned to the Cognition division, particularly in the education field, which is responsible for designing, developing, and ensuring the quality of learning materials for students. This placement provided valuable experience in the process of developing technology-based learning modules.

As part of the program, the students worked as educational module designers responsible for creating and organizing learning materials to make them more engaging, easy to understand, and aligned with the company’s learning objectives. The students also coordinated with mentors to ensure that the module content met users’ needs and complied with the company’s educational standards.

The internship program also provided opportunities for students to learn digital design tools, particularly Figma. Although they had no prior experience using the software, the students received direct guidance from professional mentors, enabling them to gradually develop their design skills. Support from mentors, company staff, and fellow interns also helped ease the adaptation process throughout the program.

Several learning modules developed during the internship included Roblox, Scratch, and Coding HTML modules. In the Roblox module, the students contributed to preparing learning materials that introduced the basic concepts of game creation and programming logic through the Roblox platform. The materials were designed interactively to make them easier for beginner students to understand while also encouraging creativity through educational game-based learning.

In addition, the students were involved in developing Scratch modules, a block-based visual programming language developed by MIT to help beginners understand programming logic in an interactive and enjoyable way. In this module, the students assisted in organizing learning materials step by step, starting from basic introductions to simple practical exercises aimed at developing students’ creativity and logical thinking skills.

For the Coding HTML module, the students contributed to preparing introductory web development materials focused on HTML as the foundation of website creation. The materials were systematically arranged and supported by simple coding examples to make them easier for students to understand.

Besides participating in learning module development, the students were also involved in various company activities, such as skill development training for interns, Holiday Camp activities, internal division training sessions, and other competency development programs. These activities provided additional insights into professional work culture and collaboration within the digital education industry.

Through the internship program at PT Vortex Buana Edumedia, the students gained valuable academic and professional experiences. The program helped improve communication skills, time management, creativity in instructional design, and the ability to work collaboratively in teams. Furthermore, the experience broadened the students’ understanding of the professional world and the digital education industry.

This internship program is expected to become valuable preparation for students in facing future professional challenges after completing their studies. The program also reflects the commitment of the English Literature Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta to supporting the development of adaptive, creative, and competitive graduates in the digital era.
