English Literature Students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Take Part in the 13th ELITE International Conference in Malang

Two students from the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University (UIN) Yogyakarta — Deva Olivia Artapa and Aini Savitri — successfully represented their program as student delegates at the 13th International Conference of the ELITE Association, held at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.

Both students participated in a parallel presentation session on Tuesday, October 6, 2025, presenting their research titled “Igbo Phonological Interferences in the Acquisition of English Phonemes /ʌ/ and /eɪ/ in Charity Ekezie’s Contents.”

This research is part of their effort to disseminate the academic work they developed under the supervision of Anisah Durrotul Fajri, S.S., M.Hum.

Through their study, Deva and Aini highlighted issues related to second language acquisition within the field of English language and literature studies, while also demonstrating their ability to integrate theory and academic practice at an international level.

“This was such a valuable experience. We not only learned how to present our research before an international audience, but also how to respond to questions and critiques in an academic setting,” said Deva after her presentation session.

Meanwhile, Aini Savitri added, “We are proud to represent UIN Sunan Kalijaga on an international stage. We hope this experience will inspire our peers to conduct research and share their academic work on a wider scale.”

The 13th ELITE Conference is an annual event that brings together researchers, lecturers, and students from various universities both in Indonesia and abroad. The forum serves as a collaborative space for sharing ideas, presenting research findings, and expanding academic networks in the field of language and literature.

Their supervisor, Anisah Durrotul Fajri, S.S., M.Hum., expressed her appreciation for her students’ achievement. “I am proud of their enthusiasm and commitment. Their participation in this international conference proves that English Literature students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga are capable of competing and contributing academically at the global level,” she stated.

The participation of Deva and Aini in this international event stands as concrete evidence that UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s English Literature students continue to grow in their research skills, critical thinking, and academic communication across borders.
