Drama Performance “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Metamorph, and The Black Cat” of English Department Students Chapter 2015 in Taman Budaya Yogyakarta

Students of English Department chapter 2015 had a spectacular event in September 2017 for they had performed a work of tragic horror prose in a theater. Approximately 60 students participated in the performance preparation for a period of nine months. This theater performance was an assignment for Dramaturgy and Drama Performance courses. The courses were both taught by Mr. Danial Hidayatullah. In the courses, students were required to be able to perform a play as a theater performance. This was the first experience for some students in terms of stage performances and also became a challenge for these students.
One type of literary works, the tragic horror prose, is the core of the story in this performance. The 60 students were divided into three groups for three different works of prose with different titles. Each group got prose that had to be worked on into a dialogue with other features, such as costumes, property, character make-up, musical accompaniment, and lighting arrangements for the stage. All of these things were designed and arranged in a period of nine months. This performance was held in three days on the 11th-13th of September 2017 from 18:30 Western Indonesian Time till finished.
Each group consisted of approximately 20 people, including a director, and actors/actresses. There were three prose selected by the lecturer to be played. On the first day, September 11, 2017, the first group presented prose titled The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. The second performance was on 12 September 2017 when a work titled The Metamorph by Franz Kafka was performed. On the last day, September 13, 2017, they performed a work by Edgar Allan Poe titled The Black Cat. The three performances which took place at the Societet Military, Taman Budaya Yogyakarta were organized by Pandora Theater. The Pandora Theater itself is the name of a theatre established by English Department of State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Although the name was frequently changed during the earlier days, it was agreed since 2017 that the next generations would keep this name.
