Developing International Community Service with RELO of the United States, English Department Invited Amy Suzanne Griffin to Darul Qur'aan Wa Al-Irsyad Boarding School Wonosari

English Department of State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta paid a visit to Darul Quran Islamic Boarding School. The visit which was held on Saturday 17/11/18 featured English Department's fellow from the Regional English Language Office (RELO) U.S. Embassy, Mrs. Amy Suzanne Griffin. This activity was held as a form of international service cooperation between English Department of State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and US Embassy RELO. The activity itself was English learning at Darul Quran Wa Al-Irsyad Islamic Boarding School Wonosari. As one of the departments in the field of language, English Department of Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University carried out this activity as an actualization of this campus principle, which is to integrate and interconnect religious values ​​with sciences. Therefore, English Department held a visit to the Darul Quran Islamic Boarding School to establish cooperation in community services. English Department has a lot of cooperation in community services. Every year, English Departments students are assigned to many Islamic boarding schools and Madrassas to teach for about two months. However, on this occasion, English Department specifically presented Mrs. Amy Griffin from RELO US Embassy to meet directly with students of Darul Quran Islamic Boarding School. This activity was held from 08.45 am to 12.00 pm with a series of events started by an opening speech by the Boarding School Board of Directors, followed by sharing sessions between Mrs. Amy Griffin and the students at Darul Quran Wa Al-Irsyad Wonosari Islamic Boarding School. By this activity, the Head of English Department, Mr. Dr. Ubaidillah, M.Hum., wished that this cooperation could continue to improve Darul Quran Islamic Boarding School students' language ability, especially in English, and to increase their awareness to become independent learners.
