Field Trip: Site Visit to Candi Prambanan 2023

On Thursday, November 2, 2023, the students of the English Literature Class of 2023 (Class A and B), along with their lecturer for the Pancasila Course, Mr. Bambang Hariyanto, M.A., Ph.D., conducted a field study to Candi Prambanan. The event, themed "Site Visit Candi Prambanan 2023," aimed to provide firsthand additional knowledge regarding the historical aspects of Indonesia and its relation to ancient kingdoms.

The introduction of Indonesian history is crucial in instilling a sense of love for the homeland in young generations, especially for early-semester students. A historical perspective reveals that the existence of successive kingdoms, transitioning from one dynasty to the next until it took the current form of governance, is a lengthy process. The presence of Candi Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia, plays a vital role as the foundation of the formation of Pancasila, our current national ideology.

As an initial hypothesis open to debate, the existence of several temple sites that we can still witness today indicates that our nation is significant and possesses noble values, as seen in the grand masterpiece of Candi Prambanan. The representation of the Garuda temple within the Prambanan temple complex and other temple reliefs may have played a significant role and provided inspiration to our founding parents in naming the present "Pancasila."

This field visit holds importance for English Literature students, especially those in their early semesters. In addition to honing communication skills with foreign tourists, the field trip also fosters a love for the nation's culture and nurtures camaraderie among fellow students. This program indirectly trains students as field observers, preparing them for potential roles as researchers, for example, in the field of Linguistic Anthropology. (Bmb)
